The women’s movement helped tochange ideas about women and their roles in society. One significant change, formore universal maternity, only occurred through thealliance with CUPW. Thispaper will illustrate that the alliance between thewomen’s movement andCUPW was significant to change public opinion and help to gain paid maternityleave for the majority of working women in Canada. In sum, the power thesetwo groups generated in alliance produced one of the most important socialbenefits we currently enjoy as Canadian citizens.
